We are sad to say that one of our authors, Tomaž Šalamun, died in Ljubljana Saturday at the age of 73. Šalamun was one of the most prolific Slovenian poets. Over his career, he published almost 50 poetry collections. Early in his career, he edited the literary magazine Perspektive, and was briefly imprisoned on political charges for challenging the totalitarian government of Slovenia at the time. Šalamun published his first collection of poetry, Poker, at the age of twenty-five. He won Slovenia’s Prešeren and Mladost Prizes, in addition to a Pushcart Prize, and was a Fulbright Fellow at Columbia University. He was a member of the Slovenian Academy of Science and Art.
